UG Colloquium

Topic: Spectral Graph Theory
Speaker: Alfred Mikhael
Date: January 23, 2025
Location: BA6183 (seminar room)
Abstract
This talk will start by motivating spectral graph theory through analysis of Markov processes. We will briefly discuss graph expansion and its importance in both pure and applied math. Then we will proceed through a brief review of linear algebra, and proceed to prove Cheeger's inequality relating graph eigenvalues to expansion. Exposure to linear algebra and basic probability theory will be helpful.
